A lot of people call looking for air beds, and I have to say that our selection is quite good. But what’s even cooler is that in today’s world you no longer have to settle for an air bed that sleeps close tot he floor. Now, the huge rage is raised air beds. These beds are typically 12″-22″ off the ground and come with features such as remotes, built in air bed pumps, and flocked tops.

Bladder: The bladder is the part of the waterbed that actually contains the water. Once in a while, bladders need to be replaced due to various reasons. Bladders can very in material and thickness. This, in turn, affects the waviness of the bed. The thicker the bladder, the less wavy the waterbed will be.

Liner: Liners are meant for hardside waterbeds. They are placed between the wood frame and the bladder to help protect the bladder to make it last longer and stay in good condition. Liners are usually puncture and leak proof to prevent any accidents.

Waterbed Heaters: Waterbed heaters are placed below the bladder. They heat the water in your bed, making it warmer and more comfortable to sleep in. Usually heaters are built to be overheat resistant to protect yourself and the bed from any harm.

Waterbed Conditioner: Waterbed conditioner is placed in the water of the waterbed. It prevents mold, bacteria and slime and preserves the vinyl lining of the bladder.

We have had many inquiries about the BellaSonna mattress from Tempur-Pedic. This mattress is basically a mix between a memory foam mattress and a latex mattress. From top to bottom, first there is a layer of memory foam that they refer to as a “TEMPUR-HD material comfort layer,” then there is a layer called the “TEMPUR-support layer,” then there are latex foam cylinders called “TEMPUR-FLEX dynamic support system base layer.” Apparently these layers make the bed feel just like a traditional spring mattress that has the added benefits of a latex or memory foam bed.

Did we mention that a Queen size cost $4,099!

We think that Tempur-Pedic is trying to appear innovative by using words such as “dynamic,” “flex,” and “HD.” We are sure that this bed is comfortable and definitely provides a good night’s sleep, but $4,099 is just out of our price range! Maybe if they add more leaves to the background of the promotional picture, we would consider buying it (just kidding!).

For me, a standard memory foam or latex mattress with a pillow top more than does the job!

Hardside Waterbeds

The classic waterbed model. A hardside waterbed is where the bladder (water chamber) is placed in a wooden, hard frame that holds the mattress shape of the bladder. The bladder sits on top of a deck designed to spread out the weight of the water. Hardsided waterbeds normally have padding that goes over the hard side to make the bed more comfortable to get in and out of. Hardsided waterbeds typically do not have much upholstery on top of the bladder, so it is much wavier than a softsided waterbed.

Softside Waterbeds

This is the newer waterbed model that was created to sort of bridge the gap between traditional beds and hardside waterbeds. This is the more popular type of waterbed. Softside beds have sturdy foam or similar materials that give a soft casing for the bladder. This makes the bed look more like a traditional mattress. Unlike hardsided waterbeds, softsided waterbeds can sit on a traditional mattress foundation. Softsided waterbeds usually have layers of foam or fabric on top of the space for the bladder. This decreases the waviness of the waterbed, providing more support for your body while you sleep.

Sleepy’s is pushing these beds very hard to be the “luxury” mattresses they offer. These beds are priced higher than most beds. The standard model starts at $699 for a twin and it goes all the way up to $1499 for the “luxuriant” model twin size.

Miralux mattresses are basically glorified spring mattresses. They use coils, and place layers of foam on top to add comfort. Miralux beds also have mircofiber fabric that is advertised as “softer than silk,” and breathable. Even with all the add ons that Sleepy’s advertises, the Miralux beds are still spring mattresses, the lowest quality mattresses on the market today. Spring mattresses do not last long, and they start to lose their shape and sink in the middle over time.

Many of the online testimonials that we have read about the Miraluz have been negative. Here are some of the reviews we found:

- “My mom bought an almost $4000 king-size Miralux and after a very short time — less than three months — there was visible sagging on both sides of the bed where my parents sleep. After sleeping on it myself for one night, I woke up with the familiar backache caused by unsupportive mattresses.”

- “This miralux rapture mattress felt good in the store, but after actually sleeping on it for a few nights, we wish we had our 7 year old mattress back. This was a big mistake and we got talked into it at Slelepy’s.”

- “I bought a Miralux – Luxuriant mattress from Sleepy’s from a very crafty salesmen just out to make his commission for the day. I paid $2,000 for “top of the line” Miralux. After 6 months the mattress sags terribly on each side where me & my husband sleep.”

The standard model is the True Response Bellbrook Mattress. It is a 10″ standard memory foam mattress. For this model, the Queen is priced at $1009. This is a moderate price for a product of this quality. If this is a bed you are interested in, we recommend exploring cheaper options. When you are buying a Serta Mattress, you are paying for the brand name.

 A single chamber bladder is one single container of water.  The more you fill the chamber of water, the firmed the waterbed will be. Any size bed has the option of single chamber. A single chamber bladder is great people who sleep with only one person in the bed. This way, the entire bed meets your desired level of firmness.

 This option is only available for Queen or California King sizes. Dual chamber bladders can each be filled to desired level of firmness. This is a great option for two people who have different sleeping preferences. Also, this decreases the amount of waves that transfer from one side of the bed to the other. If one person is tossing and turning during the night, the dual chamber bladder decreases the chance that the other person will feel it during the night.
